Anik Karimjee, Principal

Anik’s career in marketing research started like most people in the industry - quite by accident. While at the University of Western Ontario from 1988 - 1991, Anik worked part-time at Criterion Research Corp. honing his research skills and managing the proprietary perceptional analyzer system. In 1991, Anik joined DJC Research (now owned by A.C. Nielsen) and worked on projects for Labatt Breweries, Nissan and Duracell. In addition, Anik spearheaded the retail audit department and worked on a number of test market audits for Rothmans, Benson & Hedges.

Wanting to pursue an entrepreneurial passion, Anik accepted the position of Senior Research Executive at Millward Brown International when they first came to Canada. In only two years the business and staff grew five fold. After exceeding many business expectations, Anik left Millward Brown as Account Director on American Express, Helene Curtis, Hiram Walker and a number of smaller accounts to pursue challenges in advertising.

Anik joined Vickers & Benson Advertising in 1995 as Creative Director of Information on the McDonald’s account. The mission was to bring leadership to both McDonald’s and Vickers & Benson’s commitment to fact based decision-making. He moved to Vice President - Director, Strategic Planning and was involved in projects for many of the agencies accounts including the Bank of Montreal, British Airways and Lennox Industries. Pursuing his account planning skills, Anik joined TBWA/Chiat/Day as Group Planning Director and worked on Nissan, AGF Mutual Funds and the agency’s dot.com accounts.

In November 2000, Anik joined Commins, Wingrove as a Partner where he combined his skills as a researcher, account planner and marketer. He was responsible for the day to day management and interpretation of research for Microsoft, Unilever, Nike and Burger King

In October of 2005, Anik started Rank Research Group to help companies manage their research resources more effectively and efficiently. He has developed a planning model that helps companies use best practices, leverage past learning and ensure that they get an ROI on their research. Rank Research Group currently serves as the outsourced research department for Burger King Canada, Panasonic, Virgin, The Home Depot and Capital One. Rank also consults on strategic projects.

Anik is a professional member of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association and a Past-President of their Toronto Chapter.  He has a Certified Marketing Research Professional designation from the MRIA and has further served the community by chairing conferences and working on numerous committees.  Anik is also an avid sailor and adventure traveler.
